Following on from yesterday's beach theme, we decided to go to a different beach. Our chosen beach was called Mwnt beach, or Mwnt traeth if you want it in Welsh. This beach was a bit more secluded and less touristy with a few more locals on it. For some reason, Grandad David had decided to bring a football with the English flag printed on it. I'm sure that went down well with the locals...

First in the sea...

It wasn't a very hot day but I still felt the need to go into the sea. There's something about not living by the sea and the need to get in it at every available opportunity. I don't know why. It was freezing cold and I couldn't feel my legs after about five minutes but I continued. For some reason, the kids couldn't feel the cold either, but they didn't venture in past their waist.

Waterpistols at 50 paces...

All of the kids were bought waterpistols to play with and I stole Thomas's (what? I didn't want to miss out on the action did I?)

War wounds....

Being the biggest target, I also became the main target and got shot at all day.

Baywatch...

I think I should have put my red shorts on to look the part. Katie obviously trusted me to look after her. Someone must have told her that I have the Bronze Medallion Life Saving Award.

It's tough...

...being a web author. I mean, what the hell do I write about this photo? I suppose I could give credit to my assistant photographer Emma who kindly took pictures while I was covered in Welsh seawater.

Emily...

We found a cave which was big enough to fit a child through but we didn't and they didn't seem too interested to go into it. Emily looked proud and claimed it as hers.

The bearded sea monster...

Thomas is sporting his sand beard again.

The trench...

Along the cliff edge ran a bit of a stream from the hills behind us. I decided to divert it's flow back uphill toward the hole that Dave had dug for Thomas. The trench was going to be about 20m long. If you've ever tried to divert the water in the sand you'll know that to go uphill, you need to dig deeper and wider and it always caves in. I was on a mission...

Hmmm....

If only you could read his mind. I wonder what he was thinking?

Clean as a whistle...

Dave had managed to dig quite a lot of the trench but had somehow managed to keep clean throughout the whole process.

Proud...

The trench was dug and we were ready for the invasion of the Irish.

Auntie Kathlyn...

The sun is out, I'm swimming in the sea, the kids are playing in the sand and Auntie Kathlyn is sitting there shivering in her coat, cardigan and socks rolled up to her knees.

The teacher...

Sarah had been getting the kids to copy everybody's names in the sand. Emma deemed it important to take a picture of her own name written twice.

I can see the pub from here...

I venture off into the unknown, and apparently, towards Cork in Ireland with Keziah.

Hi honey, I'm home...

After a few pints of the black stuff in Ireland, I returned back to the beach with Keziah.

The burial...

'Tis traditional on a british beach holiday to bury someone in the sand. Emily was first.

Next...

I was obviously going to be buried next. There's always a danger letting kids bury you. First there's the sand that was thrown directly on my crotch. Then they trod all over me without realising. To top it all off, I had a few shovels of sand placed neatly in my face.

Gymnast...

Not sure what Keziah was doing here, but I thought it was funny enough to deserve a place on the page.

Achtung! Achtung!

Carla thought it would be dangerous to leave the trench as it was so we filled it back in.

More burials...

I don't know what was buried under here but we couldn't find auntie Kathlyn for ages.

One of those...

Just to make sure Emma doesn't talk to me for the next week or so, I've added this one. It's another one of those 'don't you dare put that on your website' photos.

Farewell...

The day drew to a close and we headed up the 2000 steps back to the car park.

The kids had had fun and we were off down the pub.
