evil monkey

If you've never been to Gibraltar, and you're of GB origin, it's worth a trip. This strange place is a mixture of all communities and some in-breeding I suspect.

  the limestone rock of gibraltar
To get to Gibraltar, you can either fly, drive or walk. We chose to get the bus from Marbella to La Linea. We then had to walk through the Spanish and the n the British border. When past this, you have to walk across an airport runway. The sign tells you to cross quickly. If a plane were to land, people would probably see me run (which doesn't happen very often).

Gibraltar is pretty much the same as England. The only exception is that they drive on the right-hand side of the road with left-hand drive cars. The currency is GBP and everyone speaks English.
The rock is solid limestone and you can take a cable car up to the top of it which is what we did. On a clear day, you can see the mountains in Morocco, Africa. This is the view to the West, with the main high street below and the port.

The missus (Sarah) poses for the usual tourist shot.

  crazy monkey
I'd heard that monkeys roam free on the rock, but I didn't expect so many of them. They're everywhere! Apparently if you try and touch them, they'll bite. They didn't bite me, but I would have bitten them back. Anyway, what's a monkey bite when you've been stung seven times in one sitting by jellyfish?
This is the only place in Europe where monkeys can be found roaming free.

mother and child monkey - spawn of monkey
Mother & child contemplating whether to buy an apartment on the rock.

  monkey madness
Inside the rock, there are a multitude of caverns and mines dug out. This is us in one of them. Just incase you thought it was another monkey picture. (she's gonna kill me when she sees this)

a monkey steals an icecream/lollipop and eats it
This cheeky monkey (no pun intended) stole this ice cream from an unaware girl. He then climbed out of reach to relish in his thievery. Obviously a professional thief, he looked like he had done this before cos he was holding the ice cream by the stick in order not to get his hands dirty.

  smiling monkey / angry monkey
Remember the bit before about the monkeys biting? This was as close I got to it. Stupidly, I decided I wanted a close-up of a monkey. I stood there trying to focus the camera but he just kept moving. I think he got a little pissed off and went for me just as I took the picture. I can't tell whether he's angry or smiling...

  monkeys chillin out
More monkeys - just chillin.

  a monkey reflection
The final monkey.
After spending a day looking at monkeys, we decided to go home and catch the 20:45 bus back to Marbella. Upon arrival at the station, we discovered there was no 20:45 bus - the last one was at 17:30. Bugger.
We walked back across the border into Gibraltar, got a hotel room and left the next day at 07:15. Sarah departed that day and I was once again girlfriendless. Well, she's still my missus and I will miss her, until next time...
